  1. Slit bittergourd and deseed.Chop into semi circles.Cube pumpkin into small pieces.Smear little salt in them.Chop finely 1 onion.Heat oil in a pan and sprinkle kalonji and 1dry red chilli.
  2. When they splutter,add chopped onion and fry lightly.Add chopped bittergourd and pumpkin.Fry in low flame.Add red chilli powder,turmeric,salt and sugar to taste.Sprinkle little water and cook covered on low flame till done.
  3. Serve as a side dish with rice in lunch.

Now add the (squeezed) karela pieces. Now add all dry spices, and salt. Slice the bitter melon into ¼ inch slices and remove as many seeds as possible (the rest will be easy to remove once cooked). Add the spices and mix well. Coat the bitter gourd pieces with corn flour, red chili powder and turmeric powder. (Salt is not needed as the bitter gourd would have absorbed enough salt).
